Sunday 24th March 2013 As most of us know, David McLennan (MGFmad) passed away in December 2012 and a decision was made to hold a memorial run in early 2013. David was suffering from Motor Neuron disease and was supported by MND Scotland. www.mndscotland.org.uk/The following is information sent by MND Scotland. Your support helps us to make a real difference. There are currently 387 people living in Scotland with motor neurone disease, and more than 130 people will be diagnosed this year. MND Scotland is the only charity providing care and support for people affected by the condition and their carers, whilst also funding research into the disease. Everyone with motor neurone disease in Scotland receives direct care from our team of Care Specialists who also ensure that our information and support services can be accessed after diagnosis and throughout the progression of the disease. We provide direct support to people with MND and their families, through the loan of specialist equipment such as electronic communication aids for people who can no longer speak. Our services will cost more than £1,000,000 this year, which means we have to raise almost £20,000 every week. If you are attending the memorial run, MG Freedom will ask for a donation and all the money will go to MND (Scotland) As David was known and respected on .org, we thought the members from .org should also have the opportunity of attending the Memorial Run so we have decided to head south into the Borders and Northumberland areas in the hope some will attend. See here for the .org thread . . . forums.mg-rover.org/showthread.php?t=497518Saturday 23rd March 2013 Departing from; The Premier Inn car park at Edinburgh Road, Newhouse, Motherwell, Lanarkshire ML1 5SY goo.gl/maps/gDRmATime; Departing at 10.30am. I have suggested 7.30pm, to the hotel. Sunday 24th March 2013[/size] The actual run and route has still to be decided. I have contacted CJJ (Clive) on .org and he and the Border patrol are more than happy to help with a route etc.
Clive thinks this run/event could be very busy. I/we may have underestimated the possible turnout for this run/event so if anyone is thinking of going, it may be a good idea to get the hotel booked asap to ensure you have accommodation.

Would that suite? Straight down the A7 from Edinburgh for you. I've never been in Selkirk before so I'm not sure of where to stop for lunch but surely there are pubs, cafes etc. If anyone can recommend somewhere, please do.

Seems fine to me - will investigate map nearer date. Like the idea of the badges - makes it a MGAAB however this stands for 'Master Gardeners Association of Alberta' (googled it!!). John

Hi everyone, just joined to let you all know any relevant info from our side of things. Very honoured to be asked to help. I just hope we can live up to expectations. This is the proposed route for the run. The route will cross the country towards Penrith and take in some of Northumberlands most famous driving roads. The Main attraction being the roads upto and down from the Hartside Cafe where we will stop for a bite to eat. There is plenty of parking available as long as not too many car/bike clubs are there. Members of The Border Patrol are very familiar with this route and enjoy the views and road itself. This is the route we will follow, with the cafe being at point "B" goo.gl/maps/NxjC2The Cafe is a meeting point for bikers and car clubs etc and serves pie, cake, coffee etc. The Hartside Pass is one of Northumberlands favourite car driving roads. Have a look at these videos taken by us to give an idea of the route. and this

I have contacted Longhirst Hall Hotel regarding the reservations. They confirmed all the names on our list in the first post, except mitchmg This has now been sorted. They have 6 rooms remaining/reserved for us and these will be open to the public in approx two weeks time so if anyone is considering coming along, please contact the hotel and book your room now! I have booked the lunch at the Buccleuch Arms Hotel for 1pm. This gives us plenty of time to get there. Remember we are departing at 10.30am, please don't be late. 673NN

I booked a standard room, if you want a superior, you have just to give Lucy a call. 673NN

A few wee things. 1. I have organised MGFmad Memorial Run boot magnets which will be on sale on the day. Again, all the money raised from these will be going to Motor Neuron Disease Scotland (MND Scotland) 2. I have contacted the NMD Scotland fund raiser to tell him about the event. Here is the reply . . .
Thanks for your email, and I’m really grateful to you for letting me know about this event. I’m sure it will be a very poignant occasion, but a very fitting one to remember David by. Any donations raised will help us to keep making a difference to the lives of people with MND in Scotland, so please pass on my thanks to everyone taking part.
If you could forward some pictures of the day I could use these on our online channels to let our supporters see what has been done to help the charity.
Many thanks, and please let me know if I can be of any assistance.
