Our July outing was our first trip overseas! Even if it was only 10 minutes on the boat. We had a day out on the popular Ayrshire coast island of Millport (Little Cumbrae).
We had arranged several meeting points en route but most of us (Alan, Glen and Susan, Alan and son Adam) met at Linwood at 9.30 with the aim of getting to Largs for about 10.15. We stopped briefly at the viewpoint on the Hayley Brae overlooking Largs before carrying on down into the town itself where we were lucky to be first in the queue for the next ferry.
We crossed in about 10 minutes and were met by Steven and June who had caught an earlier boat. We drove around the island which is only abut 11km and then carried on into the centre where, at the highest point, there is a viewpoint from which you can see for miles in every direction.
The weather was a bit changeable so we decided to head into Millport town for a while until it improved before we set up our picnic area. We had a walk around the harbour and esplanade until the sun came back out before we set off again for our barbeque/picnic. We found a nice grassy area near the sea and parked the cars on the grassy foreshore as a windbreak and set up on a picnic table. We stayed here for a couple of hours enjoying our food and some banter before packing up and heading back to the ferry.
When we came off the ferry at Largs, we parked in the town centre and went for a coffee and cake, sitting outside in the sunshine and enjoying the remainder of our day trip before heading back home via Seamill, Dalry and Beith and up the A737 towards the M8.
