Below are guidelines for members to use when attending a Run or Event. This is not something, which we should strictly adhere to, but if everyone takes these onboard and uses them, it should help make runs more enjoyable for everyone and help keep things running smoothly.
General Stuff
If you have indicated you will attend a run or event, but circumstances have changed and stopping you attending, please be courtious and advised the Run Organiser or post your non attendance on this forum and not Facebook or any other socail networking site. This aviods the group waiting for you at the departure point or event!
Please familiarise yourself with the Run Details. You will find these at the beginning of each 'Thread' for each run/event. Please printout/note the lunch venue location and input this into your Sat Nav, just in case you get lost from the main group.
Please be at the departure point in plenty of time and with sufficient fuel.
Please be ready to leave on time.
If you are going to meet the group en route, please arranged this with the Run Organiser.
If you are going to leave the run before the end of the run, please inform the Run Organiser.
Summertime Runs (March to Nov inclusive)
Departure is 10.00am unless otherwise stated.
Winter Lunch Runs (Dec to Feb inclusive)
Departure is 10.30am unless otherwise stated. Winter Lunch Runs are normally a shorter run with a longer lunch.
The Lead Car
If you are the Lead Car, it's best if members following have you in their sight. If you “pick up the pace” and lose sight of the cars behind, this is OK, however allow the cars to regroup after junctions, traffic lights, roundabouts and other areas where cars behind you may get held up.
The Rear Car
The Rear Car should have his HEADLIGHTS ON, this is important as this allows the Lead Car to identify him easily in his mirror, indicating that cars have regrouped. You may not start out being the rear car, however you may end up at the rear if others want to "pick up the pace" and overtake you. It is best for both the Lead Car and the Rear Car to have mobile phones or radios to keep in contact. Please bear in mind the current law with regard to use of mobile phones while driving! ££££ FINE ££££ & POINTS!
Need to Stop?
If you need to stop because of a breakdown, puncture etc, please use your HAZARD LIGHTS. This is the signal to other members that you need assistance and they should stop also. Telephone the leading car and inform him to stop and keep him updated.
If you are stopping for any other reason, for instance, putting up/down your hood, to take pictures etc, please use your INDICATORS and wave the cars behind you to pass. This indicates to other members, that you do not require any assistance and they can continue on the run, in the knowledge that you are OK.
Pace of Runs
We should recognise that we all have different driving styles and as such drive at different speeds from each other. If any member/s wishes to “pick up the pace”, this is OK but please allow for opportunities to regroup as described above in “Lead Car”.
If you are in the middle of the group and the cars in front have "picked up the pace" and you loose sight of them, you can continue at your own pace but look out for the cars ahead who should have pulled in to regroup at some point along the road/side road. Please don't be tempted to keep up with a faster car as it may have different tyres, pressures, suspension etc and the driver may have knowledge of the road.
Overtaking
If you wish to overtake any car in the group, this is OK, however please do so safely.
Guidelines for the Run Organiser
Choose a route and destination and post this on the site with the departing location and time. If you want any help with planning the event - just ask.
Its best to make a reservation for lunch and post this on the web site with a link to the venue’s web site, just to wet the appetite of members!
Prior to the departure time, telephone the venue with the final numbers, an ETA and confirm they are still expecting you. The Organiser should try to arrive at the departure point at least 30 minutes before the start time.
Please ensure everyone knows the route and destination(s).
Hand out the list of member’s mobile numbers to ensure we can all contact each other if required. (See Glenn for this list)
If there are a large number of cars on the event, consider breaking the run into two manageable groups with a Lead Car and Tail Car for each.
Final Thoughts
Consider taking a spare key a spare remote just in case! This could save you embarrassment, time, and money if your keys get locked in the boot!
